It's been a loooooonnnnnggggg time so I'm going to make this short and sweet. :-) Will follow up with a more thorough rundown of life in general.

- My fellow writer/ brother in creative arms John Robert McGuire got me to jump on board a Chain Blog Tour. Basically it's an opportunity to highlight the awesome talents of some fellow writers, and get your eyes on these great guys and gals. I'll begin first with Mr. McGuire.

John McGuire is an engineer by day and writer by night. He attended Georgia Tech to obtain a civil engineering degree. While his left brain absorbed information on E-mag, Calculus, Statics, Dynamics, Structures and Road Design; his right brain devoured the works of Jack London, Mark Twain, Anne Rice, Alan Moore, Kurt Busiek, and Mark Wade. Today, John is a registered professional engineer and professional writer.

His love and collection of comic books began when he was 10, in a convenience store in Waycross, Georgia. It wasn’t long afterwards when he started writing his first comic related stories. This passion has continued throughout his adult life as he remains an avid comic book reader and collector.

In 2002, he was a founding member of Terminus Media. It began as a writer’s collective in the back of the Dragon’s Horde Comic Book Store in Decatur, GA. Through the next decade Terminus, published anthologies in which John was both an editor and contributor. The Gilded Age, published in 2013, is his first on-going series. The relationship with Terminus also grew into some Work for Hire opportunities for both corporate and government entities.

In 2009, John joined Headhunta Studios, a collective of Artists and Writers. In 2013, Tiger Style was published by Arena Comics. John currently has projects in production for Arena Comics.

In 2010, John took the story telling skills that he had learned and applied them to the writing of novels and short stories. The Dark That Follows is John McGuire’s debut Novel.

Ramblin' thoughts of thanks

It's early Thanksgiving morn', 2013, and I'm sitting here running through the list of things I'm grateful for. Grateful for the fact that the chemo seems to be taking for my Dad. Thankful for my wonderful, beautiful, smart, awesomely great wife resting with the crazy mutt in the other room. Grateful for my brother who kicks ass on a second by second basis. Grateful for a supportive, and strength providing mom and stepdad, who step in at the most needed of times.


2013 has been a year of ups and downs, sideways face punches (on both a personal and professional front), kidney shots, blessings, curses, etc., etc. But in spite of all of that, I'm hella thankful.



2013 was the year that saw the publication of four books that I had a hand in writing/ creating (Route 3 #1 & #2, Radio Free Amerika #2, Terminus Team-Up #1). It was a year in which I had a chance to meet in person one of the dudes in this writing game that I look up to for advice, and getting his eyes on my work. This was a year that saw me head to some of the best comic conventions around, and spread the Terminus Media love to the masses. And don't get me started on the support/ love I've received on the Route 3 front.



It's so far been a year where as I writer I feel I've grown, but still realize I need to keep the growth going. It's been a year where as a person, on a variety of fronts, the growth is ever continuing. A year where the confidence has grown in spades, while at the same time the doubt has also kept pace (though it's somewhat slowing down). It's a constant thing, this whole having faith in myself on a variety of fronts.




But I'm headed in the right direction.


I'm thankful/ grateful for the ability to just do what I love. To simply love, live, write, be surrounded by folks who simply give a damn. For those who don't, fuck 'em. At a point where I'm thankful to even be at that spot, where the concerns/bad vibes of others are a very small point of my life.

Thankful for finally watching Misfits.




Thankful for Sleepy Hollow/ Almost Human realizing that actors of color can kick major ass just as well as their Caucasian brethren in sci-fi/ fantasy/ horror shows. Heck, we can all kick creative sci-fi/ fantasy ass together with a great story, production team, and just an all round desire to entertain to best of our abilities.



Thankful for Terminus Media, and the talented editing and advice that my fellow soldiers in the trenches lob my way day in and day out.


Hella thankful for Sean Hill, BlkAnt, Omi, and Khari.


Thankful for a damn release date for the next Star Wars movie.


Thankful for the support of folks on the comic book buying front. Folks who just heard about the concept for these funny books and supported the books.




Thankful to Netflix and Marvel teaming up. Street level Marvel Comics. :-) Awesome.


Thankful for getting to play a little bit in the backyards of Marvel and DC, even it was only for a day or so. :-) Brother's dreams came true.


Thankful for seeing indy creators realizing that we don't necessarily need the big two to tell our stories. We can do it. We can do it. Dammit, we can do it.


To quote the great Mal Reynolds: "We have done the impossible, and that makes us mighty".

Why can't we be Neo?

I'm happy. I'm excited. I'm nervous. Mainly, I'm ready. Ready for this book to be bought, read, enjoyed, talked about, something. When I say that this story that I'm about to tell is a labor of love, I'm telling the god's honest truth. This goes back to an inkling of an idea that I had after seeing the Matrix and thinking, "Why can't we be Neo?" "Why can't we be the one's running the show?" I love the Matrix, don't get me wrong, (1st flick more so than the other two), and I enjoyed how most of the cast in subesequent flicks actually looked like me. Story was on point, acting was good, and the action/ special effects(even today)make me love the flick even more. But back to "Why can't we be Neo?" Sure, comics and sci-fi have made hella inroads with having black protagonists at the head of the class. Storm. Black Lightning. Lauren Olamina. Black Panther. Icon. Rocket. Static. Hardware. Vixen. Synch. Meteor Man (don't hate on Meteor Man, you know you liked it). Spawn. Brother From Another Planet. The list goes on and on. But for Hollywood, and most major selling comic books, the idea of someone of another race running the show is a foreign concept to those who hold the reigns. I'm tired of that, and there are a crap-ton of talented folks (black, white, brown, etc.) who feel the same way, and have done something about that. Head over to www.blacksuperhero.com and learn whose doing the damn thang on this front. My first and foremost goal, is to tell a good story. A story that folks will keep coming back to, and enjoy. Secondly, I want people to understand that "we" can run this. We can tell fantastical stories of individuals from a variety of backgrounds, whether they be the heroes or the villains. I'm proud of the story that's about to drop. So-friggin-proud it hurts. Some people will like it, some won't. I can't help where it falls on folks' personal radar, but I will say this: it's out there, and for a kid who asked "Why can't "we" be Neo", it's a blessing/ dream come true. Enjoy.

To say I almost lost it when I heard the announcement, would be an understatment. I was just greatful no one was around at the 9-5 to see me poplocking (practicing for the day I'm called to save a community center.....) for joy. The Glyphs are the one of the most prestigious awards which the comics community provides, and to be nominated for two awards is awesome.

Keep your fingers crossed.

-Waiting on edits back for a client comic project. More on that later.

-Sean is kicking major butt with the Route 3 thumbnails, and now we're moving to the pencil stage. This is my baby, and I'm just glad it's in the hands of a talented/gifted artist like Sean.

-Wifey and the dog are doing well, for which I'm enternally grateful. I thank the Lord above for blessing me with her on a daily basis. I love her like crazy.

-CDC project is coming along nicely. When that hits I think people will be really satisfied with the end result. Once again, just happy to be a part of the project.

-Completed my first/ finished animation script for a client project a few weeks ago. Hopefully I'll get an ok to show that.

-Also spreading the word about our Indiegogo campaign for the graphic novel adaptation of William Satterwhite's "Stealth" . Head here for more info.

All in all life is good, grand even.

New Article/ D&D/ Awesome Creators

An update on some fronts:

-New article, check it out. Had fun with this one. Here's another one. Maurice is awesome.

-Still waiting on pages on a variety of fronts for some projects. Patience young padwan, patience.

-Site goes live soon for Project Impact.

-Got a couple of opps on the burner which I pray will come to fruition.

-Macho Man Died,which sucks. In addition to the Hulk-ster, Macho Man was a staple of my Saturday morning wrestling.

-Here & here are projects coming up which I'm really looking foward to. With seeing these creators doing their thing, I stay pumped and driven. Thanks.

-Still learning the ropes at the new job, but I'm not stressing as much as I was. I've gotten good marks so far, had some mistakes, but overall, doing better.

-Set up a D&D character for the first time. Pretty fun experience. Will try to get some actually gaming in soon, as schedule allows.

-Breakout Kings is awesome. I'm loving the cast, and cool stories. Looks like the cons are going to get found out by other cons, which is something I've been wondering when would happen.

Hey Life

It's 3 a.m in the morning' and I'm thinking BSG can get a bit depressing at times, and that's the way I like it....

Random thought aside, checka this out. Big props (as the kids say) to Dennis, my guru, my light skinned big writing brother, Mr. Ale Sharpton, etc., etc. This guy's been in my corner since day one, and I couldn't ask for a better boss/ mentor/ editor.

Story in the works for BlackSci-Fi, so stay tuned kiddos.

New job hasn't landed on the doorstep yet, so I'ma keep pushing. Don't really have any choice but to. Waiting on edits for Val's (Pic on right)story, and really need to get this off the ground. Nate gave some kick ass edits for DLG 2, for which I'm eternally greatful. That kid's going places. :-)

Get ready for my wedding to the greatest gal in the world, find a new job (this hours getting cut shit ain't cutting it), write my ass off, find out why my upstairs neighbors feel the need to stomp across the floor like a Chuck E Cheese party gone loco, and etc..

Free Comic Book Day, Dollhouse, Interview, Random Thoughts

Once again I'm going to say this: Joss Whedon and his creative crew should get more than two sesaons on network, or cable television. I just finished Dollhouse and I've got to say, it's probably one of the best things I've seen on TV in a while. My eyes can barely stay open right now, so I'll save a more in depth review for later.
